Noise…and an escape hatch

Earlier this year we hired a contractor to remodel our cabin’s main floor. We dismantled a wall to open the kitchen and dining area into the great room. Actually, calling it a “great” room is a stretch. It’s more like a tiny room. lol. We decided to replace cabinets, appliances, flooring. Pretty much everything.

Every time the nail gun popped, I jumped. Trucks chugged up and down our gravel road.

Constant noise. All. Day.

So much commotion that, when things got quiet around quitting time, I’d look around, wondering about that strange noise.

You know what I looked forward to the most? An escape from the constant battering, my daily afternoon walk at the park.

Just me and the dogs. Thirty minutes with only the chatter of birds and the gentle gurgling of the river rushing over the rocks.

Where does your escape hatch lead?

Routine…love it or leave it?

routine, inspirational quote, Dora Hiers, Tori Kayson

Since I’m a routine-lover (ya’ll know that by now, right? lol), sometimes I find myself reciting more than communicating with God. Good things, of course, like I love You, Lord, or I delight in You, Lord.

I think there’s a place for routine in prayer life. For example, my day is really off balance if I don’t spend time with the Lord first thing in the morning. So, I start my day in the Word. Alone, just me and Him. Well, and my two sidekicks. 🙂

And, no, they are not always this calm or quiet in the mornings.

But, I also want my relationship with the Lord to be meaningful and fresh every day, not stagnant or rote. I mean, He’s given me so much–given me a brand new day– how can I not respond with a heart full of gratitude and worship? He’s precious, and I treasure Him. Words matter to Him.

But I think He’s quite okay with repeating words.
“And they were calling to one another: Holyholyholy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” Isaiah 6:3 NIV
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’ who was, and is, and is to come.” Revelation 4:8 NIV
Just so long as I’m communicating, not just reciting hollow words and sentiment. As long as I’m prioritizing Him and opening my heart in worship.
May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14 NIV
What about you? Routine in your prayer life? Love it or leave it?
