“I never feel lonely if I’ve got a book – they’re like old friends. Even if you’re not reading them over and over again, you know they are there. And they’re part of your history. They sort of tell a story about your journey through life.” ~Emilia Fox

Which of your books are long-time friends? What places has your reading taken you? Do you choose your books based on where you’re at in life, or the other way around?

During the painful time after my divorce (in my early 20’s), I devoured self-help books. After I remarried and our kids were younger, I rarely had time to read so I mostly stuck to devotionals. When our youngest reached upper elementary, I discovered a whole new world of reading and dived into Christian fiction, specifically romance.

What about you?  What journey would your reading reveal?

  1. I love the escape that reading provides, Tori. Sadly, I don’t have nearly as much time to read as I’d like. My father, who reads the newspaper and every financial publication out there, never read fiction. Recently, when he was under a great deal of stress caring for my mother, I suggested he read fiction for the escape. I bought him a couple of John Grisham books and as of today, he’s almost read every book Grisham has written. 🙂

    • Aww! Isn’t it amazing the power of reading? I’m so glad your father found some measure of comfort in books, Jill. You might point him to Robert Whitlow, a Charlotte author of legal thrillers with a faith element. I met him a few years ago when he came to speak at our library. What a wonderful, amazing speaker! Hope you can eventually carve out more time to read for fun, Jill. With a full time job, it can’t be easy to squeeze in writing, let alone reading for pleasure. xo
